This year is the first year we have joined in with the national Heritage Weekend and as a trial run for future years we opened up Rye Meadows to visitors between 12pm and 2pm on Saturday 9th September. Two years ago we tried to have an Open Day but had a disappointing number of visitors - two! This time with the extra free publicity in the Heritage Weekend programme we had more visitors from as far afield as Croydon and Wellington (New Zealand) - though to be fair, the lady was already here and hadn't made a special trip just to visit Rye Meadows. She was though impressed and gave us a generous donation towards our costs. Many thanks!
For once the weather forecasters got it absolutely correct and we were able to finish at 2pm and take down the gazebo and displays before the rain arrived at 3pm.
